i tested all my ammonia, nitrate, and nitrite. ammonia is at 0ppm, nitrite is at 0ppm and nitrate is just under 4ppm. i put in two fish, a needle fish and a pepper cory catfish. about three days later my needle fish dies, he ate and everything.

i got a new needle fish and he dies too, but my catfish survives

can you explain what you did to cycle the tank please?

i did a fishless cycle. poured in the ammonia that all the websites said,(no coloration or anything) and i let it run. when my ammonia and nitrite reached 0ppm my water was a milky white. i did some research on how to get rid of it and it said that i should just do small water changes weekly, which i also did.

it a little over 2 weeks. the suspense was a killer

Did you use any "mature media" (sponge or other material from an old tank) from another hobbyist or a fish store or someplace like that? Or was it just the brand new media that came with the filter?
