This has baffled me for quite some time, not all the time but sometimes they will swim to the top then nose dive back down again.

Why do they do this? or are mine a bit weird haha

Rob

lol they aren't weird. This is normal behaviour they do occasionally go to the top for a breath :) Maybe it's because the surface isn't where they are most comfortable so they just spend as little time there as they need to?

If they are doing it a lot you may need to check your water stats and make sure the water has plenty of oxygen but a couple of times an hour is fine I would think (?)

They do swim to the top to gulp air occasionally. But as said above, if they hang out at the top or do it a great deal, check your water stats. How often and how much do you do for water changes? How big is your tank, what kind of filtration, how many fish?

Corydoras have the ability to absorb oxygen through their intestinal tract :) they take a gulp of air and swallow some of it.
