Why can't I keep dwarf gouramis alive?

It's been probably about 2 months since this all began. The 26 gallon would have to be emptied along with all my fish. I guess I should probably do it since the TB is still in there. It's one of those things, you know . . . Put if off because you don't see any ill effects. Yet. Then one day, BAM! All the fishies die. Don't want that to happen so I guess I better do it. Good news is the tank is at work, so I get paid!

CFC, if I borrow an empty tank, cycle it with fresh water (no fish), transfer the fish to give them a 'wash', sterilise my tank and then replace them, will this work?

give up and get pearl gouramis instead, dwarfs arent worth the effort
