Okay, i have 2 female balloons and 1 male, and one gold dust mollie female. I see all the time for the last 6 months the male stick his thing in the baloon mollies. Any ideas why they aren't producing fry yet?? lol

"stick his thing" lol
gonopodium is the scientific name I believe (not sure about spelling)

Maybe he is infertile?

I'm with Fish48, you are most likely missing their drops.

I have the same problem, they are constantly mating yet i never get fry. I think they are being eaten.

i don't believe so, they have never gotten fat from pregnancy or shown signs. I have had many livebeerers and i know the signs by now.could be because they are young, they are 1 inch now. it took them so long to get 1 inch it's not funny LOL.

I have no idea how you could tell if a balloon molly was carrying fry or not. I go by shape in most cases and their shape would definitely throw me off. If you are sure that the mollies have not been breeding with results, put one of the females into a delivery tank with lots of cover for 6 weeks. At the end of that time you can be fairly certain one way or the other. If you do not separate the female, I will suggest there is no way you can tell. This girl seemed to never become truly gravid in the community tank. In about 3 weeks this was the result.

I thought she might be gravid when I put her in the tank but was only certain a couple of weeks later. The picture was taken on day 7 after her drop.

they are small still 1 inch in size, if they were to be pregnant i'd be able to tell i think lol. but i will do that and see what happens. Thanks!

It's very difficult with balloon's to tell if their pregnant, as their so deformed!
And an inch is small but ok for them.

I too think you have missed them.

aww okay i will keep a good watch on them.

dont use balloon mollies their really hard to tell if they are pregenant because there belly is always huge

i sugget using 9 female black mollies & 3 assorted males to stop domination and way more chance to breed them.
breeding trap for pregenant females.
2 tanks 1 for keeping the pregenant females and the other for all the other mollies.
use some decor such as plants in the main tank just incease the females gives birth without you knowing and there is at least somewere for them 2 hide.
i heard that it is better to have the tempreture at about 26C this helps the breeding to speed up. :D i hope this helps!!

JohnRossDele, I don't think the question posed by the OP is so much how to get some molly fry. It struck me as more a question of why they are not seeing fry. That question will never be answered by removing the present stock and restocking the tank.

It is fine by me. I try to answer the original poster's questions in most cases. Sometimes I respond to other posts in a thread though.
