hey everyone

bought a second hand tank on thursday, the gravel came with it

set it up on friday after giving everything a good clean and there were no signs of life at all.

got up this morning and found these guys

haven't got a clue what type of snail they are, what they need to be fed or anything

am having a bit of a panic as i'm not sure what to do with them!

any speedy advie wouldbe gratefully accepted

tried posting this in the invertebrates section but couldn't get the pics in for some reason :/

thanks

Ales xx

If you leave them, there will be thousands of them before you know it. Id get rid of them, unless youre putting puffers in there.

yeh i've heard snails reproduce prety quickly.

was wondering if they'd help me out with my algae problems in the main tank??

They are malaysian trumpet snails... they'll eat algae and leftover food.. They do multiply quite quickly, but if you have an algae problem they're good for helpin get rid of it..

I have 100s of them in most of my tanks... I like them.. free cleanup crew!

Yup, they are especially suited for tanks w/sand substrate as they will stay under the sand most of the time and keep it from getting compacted.

excellent, thanks for that guys.

have also added a wee hidie-hole for the cory's from slate and an air pump with an air stone, so lots of nice bubbles going on now :good: buth of which also came with the second hander, but are great additions to my main tank

have just done a water change so will add pics when the water has cleared a little.
