I realized this might be worth sharing.

I went into the local chain LFS (Big Als) with my ex-girlfriend to get some things. At the checkout she told the manager she was a second grade teacher and asked for a free tank. I thought she was nuts! A flash of her I.D and we were walking out with a free 20 gallon tank, with all the fixin's except livestock. When I asked an independent LFS about it he gave me all the information needed to get one from Tetra, through a program of theirs.

So if you want a classroom tank... :)

I'm a homeschooler. Does that count? LOL

wish i had seen this a few weeks ago. i just bought a tank for my daughter's class. i only got a ten gallon. is there an age limit for it? my daughter is in 6th grade. oh, and i do homeschool my 10th grade daughter too :D

Thanks for sharing that!

Homeschoolers are often eligible for educator discounts, programs, and the like. It's definately worth asking about :) Not sure if you'll get a 125 gallon tank though... :p My mom frequently got educator discounts for things while she was homeschooling us (she's also a licensed teacher, but I don't think you have to be to get educator discounts if you're homeschooling...probably depends on the place, though). Bookstores often have an educator's discount, as do many other places. When I bought some fish for my mom's tank, I was able to get a discount, since they were for a classroom.

I figure that things like that are always worth an ask

Edit: Just found this:

Would you be willing to share this information (even if it's via PM)? I'm setting up tanks in assorted classrooms at my mom's school and there are other classrooms that might like tanks, too. I currently have a 55-gallon set up in my mom's classroom and a ten-gallon set up in another classroom. I'm going to be setting up a 29-gallon Puffer tank in yet another classroom there.

Thanks!

Thanks for the link! I joined aquademics even though my oldest is 3rd grade (their lesson plans start at 4th grade, but we can improvise). I've been wanting an aquarium kit for a betta so now I can get one and get a $10 rebate. woohoo!
