I was checking one of my spare pumps worked and it was a little to powerful for the 5 gallon tank and ended in a storm of swirling bubbles and substrate going everywhere, so I removed it but I think my cory has swallowed a bubble of air and now seems unable to leave the surface. He has wedged himself against my moss wall so that he is no longer at the surface but still seems un willing and unable to move. He is floating upside down and I am not sre what to do to help him is there anything I can do?

this might sound silly but try massaging its stomach lightly for 5/10 seconds max and put it back in the tank tail first to expell the air from its belly its not a garuantee it will work but it has for me before mate a couple of years ago and just keep repeating it every 2/3 hors for the day hopefully it will work for you too

Currently I have trapped him in a shot glass at the bottom of the tank and one small bubble has come out. I am going to leave him like that for 5 minutes then try your method. its only 2-3 cm so massaging may be a struggle.

strange... I managed to empty him out and he actually sunk of his own accord not moving mind but gills were going. Just turned around 2 minutes later and he is back at the top floating again upside down.

Well he is laying upside down on the bottom now I placed him underneath an arch so that should keep him in a sheltered position to calm down.

Edit: lol he has now disappeared somewhere lol, who knew a nearly dead fish could be so hard to find half the time. I shall just leave him then have a really good check in 4-5 hours after he has had a little time to relax.

Found him again still swimming upside down/ on his side at the bottom of the tank I am thinking that perhaps I hurt him whilst massaging hence the strange activity. Hope he gets better otherwise it would be the 2nd one I have lost since getting them (the first one I suspect was eaten by my betta or ADF's)

Wow.
Never heard of this before.
Sorry to hear about it.
I hope he recovers fully.
Good luck.

I haven't got a hospital tank so I have blacked out that tank and added some tonic salts.

Just a thought but
Have you tried feeding him?
It might get rid of the bubble when he digests the food.
But it could also into turn to a disaster.

Fairly sure the bubble is gone now. I think I either injured him or he is in a state of shock.
