My lil' betta has been in his 11Gal tank for over a month now, and as my waters and stuff are fine i wanted to get something else in there.

I was wondering about platies and mollies. As far as i have heard, platies are fine, but i have read a few horror stories about mollies.

I don't mind about the fry, i am going to have lots of hiding space, but if they get eaten, then they get eaten...but i don;t want there to be any fighting between the older fish.

Any ideas?

I've got Cory's in with mine and they get along fine and they are fun to watch as they are really busy all the time. I don't know about Platies but I'm sure someone will be along to let you know.

ok cheers...i know about the cories, my boyfriends lil' bro has some in with his fighter, but i have a plec, and didn't want any more bottom dwellers...thanks anyway though

platy can be just as bad as mollies, a really placid fish is needed if you must have tank mates, harliquins are proving to be a great choice, some of my customers are trying this out and none of them have had a problem so far with any of the fish. i also have tried this out after a customer said it was ok (see some of us do listen to our customers  )i found there to be no problem at all and that was over a good 2 months period, the betta eventually went to a customer as they insisted i sold him to them. so i did.

i had youg platy and guppies with my one hten i took them out and he was really sad

Minnows are Fine with Bettas, Never had problems with mixing them in the Past.
For contrast try some Gold Mountain Minnows.

I have a couple Ottos in with my Betta and they get along just fine... i've heard of a lot of people recommending the Ottos as well.

right now I have 2 neon tetras and 2 male guppies in with my male betta. They get along extremely well. I had 6 wag tail platies in with a male betta before too with no problems.. At one point I had mollies in there as well but they were after the bettas fins all the time so I seperated them. :good:

Male guppies...i was told that's a huge no-no...i've alway wanted male guppies but was told that it's not a good idea?

iv had male guppies in with afew of my males with no problems at all then again they were raised with them from about a month old.

hmm...i might stick to the safe side and choose platies/swordtails for now...but i might consider getting another tank next to mine with some males in and seeing how my fighter reacts...

I've had yo yo loach in with mine and not had any probs. The yo yo's are so funny to watch too and awfully cute
