Who Should I Move?

Following up to my Refuge tank topic, I have setup my tank now.

Problem: Both my female cichlids (Sajica and Firemouth) are hiding because of their male counterpart (I think). My sajicas are going to a good home next week, and my firemouths are staying. I am planning on separating the male and females until it gets bigger. I was wondering whether one would take the male out of the big tank, and let the female establish its territory, then reintroduce the male when she's ok and ready to breed. Or should I move the female out of the big tank, fatten her up and then put her back in the big tank a few weeks later?

Eventually I plan to put the tiger barbs in the smaller tank as they are the only ones suitable for it.

Any suggestions welcomed.

I would take the male out and let the female fatten up in the community tank. That way when you introduce the male back into the community tank he will have to find a new territory all over again and the female will already have boundries established.

That's my thought as well. The female is just being chased away by the male firemout only... and when the sajica is gone she will be the onl cichld in village tank.
