My small tank, 34l, currently has a pair of Tiburon's Limia, and frankly it's looking a little bare.

I was wondering about a pair of Scarlet Badis, and then wondering whether I could get 2 pairs in there? I know the males can be a little territorial, but the tank is heavily planted, so provides plenty of opportuinities for territories to be established.

Thoughts, anyone?

Personally.... I wouldnt keep two males together.. a male and several females maybe.....

When I had 10 in a 40L tank (shop), it was 5 males and 5 females and all very young, 10mm was the biggest ones! One male was a beserker and killed all the other males just like that. Personally I wouldnt trust males together. They are really narky little characters! More like cichlids in personality and I would treat them as such.

Thanks, MBOU, knew I could rely on you! You might also say they are like little SFF - what with the elongated pec fins as well.

Changing tack, somewhat, then, how about a pair of Aphosemion Australe? Is 34l a little small for them?

Personally... i'd say its little small for them and they would prey on other fish, nearly all surface dwelling fish are predatory because they hunt insects too, killies in particular. That said... if you can get your water parameters right... Rocket Panchax/Clown Killies are amazing!! Tiny and maybe not cheap... but they are great!

Oh, ok. BigC has them down as peaceful. Darn it.

Depends what you want to keep them with... as killies go, shy of the rocket panchax, they are one of the most peaceful... but still wouldnt ever trust a fish with a wide flat mouth specifically for eating from the surface and bugs etc not to take small fish or long fins should they get in the way...

That said... i have seen shoals of hatchet fish hunt down and eat shoals of microrasbora :p

The current tank occupants are a pair of Tiburon's Limia (L. Tridens), the male of which is my avatar. They aren't that small, and don't have long fins.
