I've never owned platys but thats b/c i've always preferred guppies. I've seen both kinds of fry and guppies are the cutest especially when they start developing colours. With guppies its like a guessing game because they all start out the same as new borns. They when they start hitting a month old different colours start to appear

I find it easier to breed guppies because I can always tell when they are pregnant. I find it harder with my platies, they aren't skinny to begin with so its a little harder to see if they are pregnant. My guppy fry don't hide as much as my platy fry does. The guppy and molly fry are always hanging out at the top of the tank waiting for food. Sometimes the platy fry disappears for days and then suddenly reappears again. Thats why I like my guppies better. Its just my prejudice for fish that come out in the open.
