Hi,

I have a Juwel Rio 180 cycling and when done I wanted to put in a pair of Convicts, I used to keep them b4 and found them easy to keep, colourfull and never dull, they are quite rowdy though and I always ended up with them in a tank of their own...

The Rio 180 is not a huge tank but its massive compared to a pair of convicts and I wondered if there were any others who could live with them and get by?

Thanks again

Jewels or Jack Dempseys..... they are pretty aggressive themselves....(if space provides.... don't really know Juwel 180, but assume it is 180l ???)

Hi ,
Its actually a Juwel Vision 180 i think and yep its 180 litres

Would that hold a couple of jack dempseys and a pair of convicts? or would that be too small? Dempseys grow to a fair size eh? I did think of an oscar and kept one in this tank b4 and he out grew it as much as we loved him he had to be moved on to a bigger tank...

Im not looking to keep a great deal of fish just hoping i can find compatable tankmates.

I may very well end up with something different but do like convicts but have always kept them alone in the end,

Thanks again

Best not putting anything with the Convicts except maybe some armoured cats or a plec, Convicts are not just aggressive their actually evil, they will just constantly fight for territory They are great fish though when they are with their own kind, put jacks with them though and they will all end up fighting to the death especially when breeding starts.

It depends, are they a breeding pair? Convicts sort of have split personalities, they are usually not tooo aggressive, and do well with other NWs like JDs or firemouths, however, if they decide to breed, all hell breaks loose, and they will attack everything they see as a threat (even armored cats aren't 'tolerated', and will be attacked)

So if you intend to breed them, I suggest leaving them by themselves.. If not, consider JD's, firemouths, green terrors, and even [temporary] oscars.

Keep in mind everything i say is not from actual experience, but rather from knowledge of reading and other people who i know.

Hope it works out ^_^

i have my convicts with jewels both are breeding pairs both with fry at the minute but they are in a jewel rio 400 so a lot bigger than your tank so they have there own territory there is also a big common plec in as well so had them together for over a year now seem to get on unless either go near others fry
