Hi, welll two and a half weeks ago i added two clown loaches to my cichlid tank!! and straight away i noticed whitespot! i treated with salt and raised temp to 32, read 31 will cause them to drop off but anything above will kill them along with the help of salt! treated for two weeks and turned temp back to 28, the past two days i have noticed all the fish scrapping themselves on things atround the tank but there are no spots of ANY of my fish, could whitespot still be in the tank but just not visible? i thought it was visible when it is on the fish??? they all seem fine not fish looking sick, infact my convicts have just spawned for their first time! is it common for fish to scrap even after whitespot??

loaches are scaleless fish and dont react well to salt, the same goes for corys etc. maybe its a reaction to the salt... if the ich has not been 100% destroyed then it will come back and the first sign is flicking/rubbing/flashing etc. i would do a largish water change along with a good gravel/substrate vac, this will release any spores in the substrate and remove with the water change if they still dont get better then if it is ich then you should see the spots returning. if you use meds to remove the ich then remove any carbon from your filter as this will remove the meds from the water making it a waste of time! be carefull with the loaches due to them not having scales it makes them sensitive to some meds so read the instructions before adding any. i know people sometimes half the dose for scaleless fish.....
only use meds if 100% sure of the problem as treating for the wrong one will just add stress to the fish and could cause further complications, dont assume be sure :good:
i had corys flicking with no other symptoms, not all the time but enough to worry me. i got lots of help on here by wilder and rabbut, i changed dechlor, treated for worms, treated for internal bacteria and still they flicked........ so i put them in their own tank and now they dont flick and have spawned this week :good: the only thing different is the substrate in the new tank is sand and not fine gavel that must have been irritating their gills. luckily i didnt loose any :good:
