Hey, i noticed yesterday that my green terrors have whitespot, i have a few other fish in the tank but they seem fine, i have medicated them, turned off the heater and light, turned airstone up along wit the filter(removed active carbon), How long will it take till the whitespot will noticably go? tomorrow im goin to do a 40% water change and remedicate monday,

cheers

I don't know if I'm right, but I have never turned off the light for whitespot.

When my fish got whitespot, I would do a part change, take the filtration out that stops the treatment working, then add the treatment.

I have also heard (and have been known to use it and work) adding some salt can help

personally I wouldnt over treat the fish, as it can do as much harm, leave the water change til after it looks like the disease starts clearing and then do a change, adding a small amount of treatment to the new water to stop the white spot before it happens

just my opinion on how I'd do it (I know it prolly wont be agreed upon)

i was told turning the light off can stop the growth of the whitespot as most things need light to live,, i have treated the whole tank but not heavily only a small amount, thanks for the help hopefully they will be fine

As I said mate, I could be wrong !

But I have always done it that way and they have recovered, white spot is a fairly minor desease so they'll be ok, just irritated :)

Give it a few days and you will see them getting better

i really hope so!!! hahaha i dont want them to die only had them for three weeks along wit my tank! hahaha

cheers buddy

there's your cause, whitespot can be caused by stress of change, so dont do a water change at all for now as its still settling (or cycling as its known)

leave the treatment to do its stuff, but unfortunately, as the tank is so new, you may still get casualties :(

ya thats wat i thought, im looking round for a 3 ft tank atm, so once i get tht im going to do a 2 week cycle b efore i even put any fish into it...

thanks for yur help =)

You need to keep the heater on they are tropical fish and need warm water to live. Just follow the instructions of your whitespot treatment, it will tell you when you can next do a water change, try not to meddle too much with the tank and let the medication do it's thing.

i did leave my heater on n turned it up to 30 degrees, yesterday the white spot had gone i returned my tank to normal, and added some more salt to the tank, everything seems fine n dandy now thanks =)
