I have just lost my 4 fhantom tetras to whitespot and my question is what should i do now?
Keep on with the medication or do a complete clean?
And how do i keep it cycled whilst i have no fish in the tank.... should i add ammonia to keep it going till i can have more fish?
And when will i know when its safe for more fish?

Thanks

could do with a little more information about how you treated the tank, when you first identified the problem. if you have no more fish, i would start again, cycle and all. best way to ensure you no longer have the ick parasite in the tank is a complete clean, even the sponges and other media from the filter.

ich needs a host to survive. if there are no fish left in the tank i would leave it fishless for 3 weeks then start a new cycle before adding new fish.

Emma :)

Yeah i thought that might be the case Emma

And bob,i have no fish in there now.I only found out they had whitespot on friday and immediatly went out and bought the whitespot medication but by this morning all 4 had died

ok i see. that was quick, no less sad for all that. in theory bumping the temp up will allow you to add fish, around a week and a half later, its actually about 6 days, temperature dependent. my reasoning was, you can cycle a freshly cleaned tank in less time than would than you would have to leave the tank empty.
