hi all, just noticed some whitespot in my tank, seem to be having problems with fish health at the mo.
the water parameters are ph 7, nitrite 0, nitrate 5, ammo 0. i've raised the temp up to 28-29. only 2 of my honey gourami's have it atm, but am worried about it spreading. bought and administered 1st treatment a few hours ago (1/2 strength dose because of the loaches).

I know its a contagious disease, especially in loaches and gourami's but is it fatal? (obviously it is if left untreated) or will treatment be successful?

And should I seperate them 2 infected fish straight away, or leave them for a day or two too see if everythings ok? my breeding tank is empty but only 4 days old so water quality my make thing worse?

Thanks for your comments.

Leave them in the tank and treat the whole tank.
Increase aeration as the med and high temp reduce 02 in the water.
Read insruction carefully on the med with having the clown loaches.
Good luck.

Hi it might be worth checking out my thread as i have had some great and helpfull replies with links that have been a huge help http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=166649

(Sorry as i was typing wilder posted "he has been a HUGE help with helping me understand the condition" i would study the actual parasitite as once you understand the lifecycle you can see the benefits of why you would treat the full tank and follow the course through.) Wilder posted the links to this in the above thread.

ahh yea, really helpful link there kev, thanks a lot m8, and to you wilder!
btw kev, did ya clowns pull through ok? and did you 1/2 the doses? my med says on the side to only use 1/2 dose with loaches.

I had a pleco with whitespot it looked like it had cleared up but it still died, so you could loose the fish, you wont know for sure til it happens. The ich life cycle involves a free swimming stage where they live in the water so def treat the whole tank. Def half the dosage.
