Fish Fanatic
okay here we go.
I resently lost a lot of fish from coloumnaris and having recovered i got two new gouramis to keep my female company (they get on great yay) anyhow the large female new gourami come down with whitespot about a week after introducing them. Well I don't know the history of my original fish but they came from a friend of a friend etc with some whitespot treatments and other stuff so I assume that the first gourami has at sometime been exposed to the parasite along with my pleco.
She did not show any whitespot this time nor did the little gourami that i got from the same shop as the big afected fish(they were not in the same tank at the shop btw)
Could my gourami be carrying this? or is it more likely that the fish came with it. I had her 1 week before the spots came at about 28c temp in my tank.
anyhow here is what i have done as I dare not treat with chemicals as i have had no luck with them in treating fish and they just seem to kill the fish quicker.
I turned the temp up to 32c and overnight the parasites all dropped off
i then removed the fish and put them in a clean tank.
i then did a complete water change in the first tank and filled it with near boiling water and then put filter and heater back in and turned it up full
i have heard the parasite can not live in over 85 f and can not live if it doesnt attatch to a fish in 24 hrs from the free swimming stage so even if there are any that survive the water change the hot water then they will have nothing to feed off.
I am hoping that this will work as I am very dubbious about treating with chemicals esp with my 14" pleco.
does this sound like it will work and if not why not? I am going to wait until 48 hrs has passed with the tank now back at 32 after being up at full all afternoon
the pleco and first gourami have only just finished the medfood from the vet for the columnaris about 2 wks ago.
oh also the gourami has always flicked like she has been shocked since i have had her but seems fine otherwise any clues anyone as to what is going on there?
