hey all,

i have another problem, again affecting my corys

my tank is 400L

ph - 7 (has dropped to 6 over the last week) solving this with bagged coral to buffer it back up and stable
am - 0.25
nitrite - 0
nitrate - 5.0

i did a 70% change to get shot of ammonia, and 1 of the corys looks a little bettern the other dont look so good!!

i have a few meds now that ive bought as a backup, any idea what i can use to ease this?

thanks

Gee your not having much luck are you mate. Any ideas why you keep getting Ammonia spikes? Is it the Pandas again? I cant help with the Meds sorry mate feel for you though, you really seem to be getting more than your fair share!

Oooooh hang on just had a thought, did you say you emptied the internal filter to fill it with coral in another thread? This could have caused the spike mate, I would image it help a fair bit of media.

Regards
Mike

yep,i opened that earlier, but that was after this ammonia spike!!

yep 2 pandas and 1 c.similis cory,again!!

i am realy going to give up,im so tired of going around in circles :-(

ive only added a few fish each week,so i imagine the fx5,internal and small fluval u2 will cope with the waste

Dont give up dude! Do you have anything rotting/dieing in the tank, how about that bamboo or non aquatic plant?

Mike

both of them are out!! i only have 3 small living plants now!!
nothing is dead fish wise neither

You adding/added any chemicals to the tank recently for anything? Just seems really odd that you are getting spikes in Ammonia are they small spikes <0.25?

Mike

yes mate,all small spikes.

i havent added anything. i removed my bamboo's,plants that were not aquatic and all the valis

i changed 50% the water last night as there was that trace of ammonia

i tested the ph of my tap water and it was 7.0, i filled the tank up and treated it with stress coat like always, and within 2 hours the ph was 6.0 (bottom of the scale) could be lower for all i no!!!

i added in a big media bag of some crushed coral, with the hope that this will raise the ph to what i desire. this i read can take a while to take affect,so its a waiting game realy. i may have to add more,or maybe take some away until i get it right!!

i noticed this morning that the corys were almost completley better looking,no idea what happened there as i added no meds what so ever!!!

The white web looking stuff, may well be due to the ph changing, Panda corys are very sensitive fish, I lost two in the space of a week after getting them as they didnt adjust well to the ph change, they had what you are describing, looks like cobwebs covering the body, the other two I had, adjusted well and are still thriving today.

ah man!!

i might re-home all my fish and start a fresh :-( poor fish need someone who can look after them :-(

this is so depressing. ive had nothing but problems since my original tank started leaking :-(

Oh dont do that, if they all look ok today, then chances are they will be fine. Tank bred panda's are trickly things anyways, very sensitive little chaps.

These blips will pass and everything will settle down, dont lose faith mate.
