White Stuff Coming Out Of Eheim Spray Bar.

Hi can anyone help me, when i clean my Eheim 2213 filter and start it back up ,I am getting lots of white floaty bits coming out of the spray tube.
Has anyone else had this happen and how did you solve the problem.Thanks in advance.

It is a collection of limecale that builds up in your filter tubes... when you turn off the pump it dries slightly, then when you run the filter again it washes some of it out.

we have the same problem with ours & it is as said buildup of limescale..........but what to do about it i dont really know as it would be impossible to clean the inside of all the filter pipes while you have fish in your tank. its just stuff that is already in your water so it wont be doing any harm to your fish - it just prob means that your pH tends on the high side like ours does with the very 'hard' tapwater we have in London. I find that the white bits settle pretty quickly & i cant see them at all.

my second hand 50g tank came free with a lot of limescale
unfortuanatly there is nothing you can do about it- have even scrubbed the bit on the outside of the filter with a brillo pad but no luck

Vinegar?

Supposed to be good for limescale. Although obviously not when the fish are in the tank at the same time. And rinse after if you do use it!

To get rid of limescale you need an acid to break it down. Vinegar and other natural acids are the only ones to use.

Other than this i have seen one or 2 limecale removal products for use in aquariums, although they probably wont help much in pipes.
