While observing my tank tonight i noticed my bn pleco kinda flashing on the rocks. Upon closer inspection i could see a white substance by his gills. Sand was also stuck to the white stuff. Any ideas what could cause this?

He is acting and eating normal other then the flashing once in a while. All other fish are acting fine no problems there

From the pics it looks like its just sand?.... are you sure he isn't flashing because he has sand stuck around his gills/hooks?... i guess this could be making him do the things yours stating.

I think you might be right. As of today its gone. Maybe he was just going a little too crazy on the bottom feeder pellets guess we will see! Hope thats it

Good mate, hopefully that was the problem, there hooks just where you saw the white stuff can be quite sharp so it's not unheard of getting bits of sand stuck, especially after having a rummage around in the sand :)

Nice pics btw too :)

the pics were very very nice :)   I can never get good ones of my BN like those >:c

And i can't wait for mine to get bristles

The ironic part about the pics is that i traded a four hundred dollar radio for a nice camera... It does take good pics of the tank dont get me wrong... 9/10 times it blows my android mp3 player out of the water... But this little thing can do some close ups if its not moving... Ha. I was amazed at it myself. Thanks for the compliments guys! I dont think it will take long for yours to get bristles if its a boy. I have only had mine a couple months now. :)

And jenclibee if thats your l46 zeebra i am very jealous!!! They are amazing! I have yet to even see one in person. I want one badly!!!

Hi mate, yes it was my big male... they are stunning and the fish really that got me into the hobby many many moons ago, i no longer have him or any others currently... long story short, i got rid of everything a few months back due to a new baby and a loss of interest :(..... fortunately the interest is slowly coming back and i'm considering where to and what to go for now lol.
