I have recently moved 6 fish of mine into a hospital tank this is the following.

1 swordtail
1 molly
6 glowlight tetras
1 siamese fighter

They all have white spots on their bodies.

I am using an Interpet anti fungus. Is this the correct thing to be using and also they have been in there for 5 days now and nothing has really changed. Any advise?

Hi Reesy

You need a white spot treatment. Do a large water change and pop some carbon into your filter to absorb what is left of the meds. Then add the white spot treatment - maybe tomorrow? Wait for more advice on when to add it, i don't want to poison your fish!

In the meantime, turn the temp up to over 80 C - I am treating whitespot at the moment and my temp is 82 C. Increase aeration if you can, but remember your fighter will get stressed by this, keep an eye on him. Maybe if you have a breeding net big enough for him to move about in, set this up as far from any current/water disturbance as possible and pop him in there, with a plant to hide in.

Good luck

Also, there is no need to move fish with Ich into a hospital tank because the whole of the main tank needs to be treated.

I was just battling a case of Ich aka ICK aka White spots for almost 2 weeks. I was using QuIck cure :/ and it says not to do water changes so I only did 2 water changes because I felt it was a good Idea. Well That did not seem to work at all. It controlled it but it was still there.

I switched it up. Raised the temp to 82F I used Rid Ich this time. I did a 50% water change first then added the amount needed of Rid Ich. I waited 12 hours and added a second dose ( some meds can be added 2twice read directions) Then the second day I did a 25 % water change and added another dose only once this day. third day I did not change the water just treated the tank. the 4th day I did another 25% water change and then treated again. I did not remove any fish I teated the whole tank because you don't know if you have free swimmers that will get your other fish. It's best to treat them all. I only removed one fish to a hospital tank because he was extremely stressed from a fish harassing him. I noticed he was developing a secondary infection from the ick. The stress had weakened his immune system. I ended up losing him to that secondary infection :rip: . None of my other fish died or got that sick they all have fully recovered.

This way has worked for me. Since doing the treatment this way I don't see any white spots on any of the fish. I am going to continue treatment to make sure all free swimmers are dead. just because you can't see them does not mean they are not there.

Water changes are a must when treating ich I don't care what the bottle says. The ick when in free swimming stage is the only time it can be killed. By doing water changes you are removing some of those free swimmers and adding good fresh water to the tank that helps keep the fish healthy.

Good luck and I recommend Rid Ick as the med of choice. :fish:

Hi All,

Unfortunately I havn't been able to get on here for a while but I do have some good news.

I treated the hospital tank everyday for a week and did a 80% water change on my tank.

All the fish that were in the hospital tank are now cured however all my mollies bar the male seem to have white spot. Although I have read that this could also be a condition due to the fact that they like a little salt in their water.

I have done 50% water changes twice a week for the past 2 weeks and there doesn't seem to be any case of ICK left now so thats the good news :)

Thanks for all the advice. However I will take these into consideration for when I next get an issue with ICK.

P.S. Even though there are no fish with ICK would it be an idea to treat the main tank anyway just in case or could this potencial kill the fish?

It would be fine to treat the main tank for ich even if you don't see any signs of it. Just because you can't see it does not mean they are not there.

My ich has all cleared up but to be on the safe side I am going to continue treatment for a few more days to make sure.
