Hi,

Last week Wednesday I did a 20% water change (as I do weekly in my 100litre tank). Went away for a couple of days, came back and several fish have white spot (including all four clown loaches). The question is I treated the tank first thing Monday Morning (day 1) and need to treat the tank again Thursday (day four), but can I do a water change just before I treat in on Thursday??? or is it best to use Nitrate reduction granules or will it react with the treatment???

i wondered about that, i just finished treating whitespot (used the inerpet med)

I thought about doing a small water change on day 4, before adding the second dose.

I decided against it, my nitrates were still quite low and i didnt want to dilute any med in the tank. But to be honest i cant see a small water change doing much harm - cartainly do one though if the nitrates are getting high.

I did a large water change when i finished treating it, 50% and put in a carbon filter sponge.

Nitrates are not too toxic to tropical fish, they're certainly not going to kill the fish as quick as the whitespot!

I would hold off on the water change until after the treatment.

That tank is way to small for clown laoches they need massive tank.
Plus clown loaches are funny with water quality and you have to do very small water changes even doing it twice a week.

Taken from the article above.
Clown loaches make no demands on extreme water elements, normal pH and KH will do excellently. On the other hand one should be careful with extreme water changes, these fish are sensitive to sudden changes in the quality of the water. Frequent small water changes are best. I reccomend changing water at least once every second week, preferably more often.
