ello,

First post here. Had a 60 ltr tank going for about 6 weeks, started out with 3 peppered corys and 6 small neons. 2 days after they were added a cory died, and the 1 other didn't look to happy. Went back to the store and the guy there said that cos the cory's were in teh same tank as a load of columbians the lads there weren't making sure that the corys were getting enough food as the columbians were greedy beggers and therefore were starved. he gave me 2 more as a replacement as he said the other cory would go the same way, which it did. everything seemed fine until earlier this week the cory that was left from the original 3 i bought was infested in white spots, a neon had a couple on its tail, and 1 golden barb has a spot the top of its tail, although this doesnt seem the same as the other spots. After reading thru this forum (excellent advice you guys give i might add) i have treated with meds and also done regular water changes using a vac on the gravel, as advised by some very ppl on here, and the neons have seemingly cleared up this morning, altho the barb still has that speck on its tail, and altho the cory still has the odd spot its looking loads better in that respect, but it now stays right at the top of the tank at the surface (was staying behind the heater at the top yesterday just below water surface), not eating or anything, just gulping, he don't look happy at all. 1 of the other cory's had a spot just behind its eye, but that has gone now too. Is there anything else i can do for the poorly cory? Obviously i shall keep doing the same thing i have been for the next week or 2 to make sure it goes, but i dont think the cory will last much longer and the top fin has degraded a bit due to where some of the white spot was :(

Help would be very appreciated. Sorry for going on a bit

Steve

btw, by regular water changes i mean every 24 - 48 hours 50% - 60%

Also in the tank there are 6 neons, 6 golden barbs, 3 corys, an algae shrimp and a suckermouth cat (bout 2.5 Inches)

thanks

Just to update, the cory did swim about for 5 mins or so, but now he is just floating on his side at the top of the tank again, altho he is breating.

Ideas/Advice would be appreciated

the ph is 7.2 - 7.6, and has been from when we first set up the tank, as i said we have been doing water changes every day or so all week, and so everything from Nitrites, Nitrates, KH etc are all fine. Originally last week the Nitites were a little high, but are now all fine. As i say all the other fish have responded well to the water changes and the meds for white spot, but just 1 of the cory's (the one who was very infested) seems to be struggling.

well as i say it was floating earlier, then it was swimming about more or less seemingly ok for about 5 or 10 mins, but now has just gone back to floating in the current and is by the heater again, but its making no effort to swim. Cute little bugger, dont want to lose him but dont want to see him suffering like this, unless there is a chance for him. dont want the other 2 cory's or other fish for that matter to get reinfected either.

have you got anything you can quarantine him in ie another tank? i am fairly new to this game too but i would sadly say i dont think its looking too good mate however someone else may be able to give you some better advice. sorry i cant really help (hug)

np, thats what i think too.

the other quarantine tank i got has 6 danio's in it that i bought this week so obviously cant really chance putting in him with them (as they seem very healthy). Have just bought a new 4ft tank, but that wont be ready to accept fish until next weekend at the earliest, was wanting to put the current tank and the danio's in it then, may be postponed a further week or so tho, but i doubt the cory will be about then :(

aw im really sorry i cant help u much, the knowledgeable ones dont seem to be about! carry on with what your doing but keep a close eye on him but i think it may not be looking good for the poor guy. poor cory i really like them. also keep eye on other fish just in case anything changes in them

the other fish are seeming loads better like i say, the odd barb is still flicking off my sons submarine ornament, but the couple of days before that they were all at it, and the 2 or 3 neons that had white spots on their tails have cleared up, as have the other cory. was feeling well happy this morning til i saw my little mate at the top of the tank :(
