Hi all had a out burst of white spot on my fish i have 2 parrorts at mo and one silver shark i bought some white spot liquid from local fish shop and have put in the amount it said, it also says to do another process of treatment after 4 days. Would you all agree ? and the same amount as first time ?

Do your fish look like they have improved from the first treatment at all?
Also try raising your temperature up to 82F degrees. This helps stop the cycle of ich. :nod:

Hi fishkies i raised it to 26c if thats right? its the second day since i done it, put it in yesterday and the shark died this morning his eyes were huge ?

Increasing the temp will reduce the capacity of the water to hold oxygen, aeriation (spelt incorrectly mind you) is making sure you have extra water movement at your waters surface to increase the oxygen uptake.
Sounds like it may have been bacterial if you mean pop-eye?

Popeye Article

Doe it look like anything similar to the pictures in the link above...????

Hi, The silver shark had pop eye definetly and then died a day later and the 2 parrot fish have many minute white spots on them and arent moving as fluently?

i have had the tank set up for 2 - 3 weeks if that helps ?

I bought the silver shark and put it in and then the problems seemed to start could he have brought it from the fish shop ?

thanks
billy

It is possible that the fish shopt shark could have brought in the problem.

What medication are you suing to treat the white spot?

Also be sure your aeration has been increased. Like a bubbler is added. :nod:

Sorry may have missed/forgotten something but it sounds like the tank may not be cycled.....

This is probably responsible if i'm correct in thinking it isn't....

Your tank isn't cycled, thats bad. Ignore the LFS they only want you to spend money before you realise the hard work involved when setting up a tank and possibly change your mind.
Have a look@this link---> Me!
With or without the whitespot (if it is Ich) cycling (i would say) is probably your main concern.
Simple break down;
Fish poo and wee, uneaten food=ammonia=toxic to fish
With an uncycled tank this ammonia isn't broken down efficiently and builds up. When cycled you'll then have....
Nitrite=toxic to fish....
Again in a cycled tank this would be converted into...
Nitrate=only toxic to fish at high levels and easily removed via water changes.

Get researching!!

Hi thanks for link there was some useful info, what would you suggest to do now i still have the 2 parrot fish if they survive what do you think i should do let them be by them self for a while?

I wouldnt add any more fish for sure.
Your problem is that you either have high ammonia or high Nitrite probably. These are more toxic than the whitespot.
Firstly get to your LFS and buy a liquid based TEST KIT (Freshwater). Dont get the crappy strips.
test your water ASAP - if you have either high ammonia or high nitrite get a water change done depending on how bad it is.
If you remove say 40litres, redoes the 40L before you put it back with your medication. Also remember to de-chlorinate your water first.
Also remove any carbon or xeolite (Bad spelling) filters if you have any as these will remove your meds.
Good luck. Post back your water stats if you can, its easier for people to help then.

Thanks for advice im going to my lfs now to get the kit and test it a bit later, and post my stats on the forum later, hopefully you will be able to help me from there

cheers
