Hi guys,

I have a black widow tetra that is in a 70 litre tank with 5 platies and he has white spot. I have only noticed this today and I only have 1 tank up and running. I really want to get him out of there, to prevent the spread to the other fish. (Since one of them is pregnant) Have you got any ideas on where he could go? I want to get him out of there asap, so any replies will be really helpful!

Thanks :shout: :(

you should have a hospital tank that you can set-up in an emergency,
it should consist of:
  • 5-10gallons (bigger if you have bigger fish)
  • air pump,
  • air powerd filter,
  • airstone (if using meds to increase aireation),
  • heater

thats a basic list, you will find a better one in the pinned post intitled "hospital tank" in the "tropical fish emergency" section.

melafix is good for whitespot, but increase aireation to aid the fish breathing.
whitespot treatments are usualy more effective with a raise in tempreture.

if you do seperate the tetra from the rest of the tank, iwould still treat the main tank.
remeber the white spots are just the eggs, there still may be the parasite in the tank, actually i guarantee it. Use a white spot treatment, turn your temperature up gradually over the treatment and treat for 2 weeks, or untill the symptoms cease to exist.

if you start treating early it shouldn't be too hard to shift the problem, hope it goes ok goodluck
