Hi,

I've recently fishless cycled a 120l tank and added 10 rummynose tetras.
I've had the fish for a week and on Thursday (3 days ago) I noticed a few whitespots on some of the rummynoses so on Friday I bought some Protozin and started treating. I'm just about to add my 3rd dose of it now.
I think it's working as 2 fish now seem to be spot free and I could only see one spot free one yesterday.

I'm concerned about one individual as he has very red eyes, isn't swimming with the rest and often seems to just turn upside down. He seems to get sucked onto the filter inlet quite alot too. I'd like to know if he's going to recover or if I should euthanise him?

Also since this morning one of the fish has gone missing (I can only count 8 + the one just mentioned) I've looked in the filter and can't see it there and it doesn't seem to have jumped out of the tank. Any ideas what could have happened to it?

Thanks.

I dont use that white spot treatment so cant comment, i used interpet No6 white spot + treatment and that worked a treat, although i did more than the recommended treatments. I did 4 full cycles of treatment to be absolutely sure the white spot had gone, and i also raised the temp in the tank to 28 degreesas this speeds up the parasite life cycle, so they become free swimming faster and thus, the medication will work on them, it wont touch them while they are on the fish. As for your missing fish, they get into all sorts of places to hide. I have lost count of the amount of times i thought they had been eaten or somethng and then they just turn up. Try not to worry about it, if you dont see him in a few days, i would move some ornaments about a little to see if he has got stuck somewhere. HTH. GRJ :good:

Thanks for your reply, but our only ornaments are lots of plants and a few rocks at the front. After having searched amongst all the plants I still couldn't find it. Do you know how quickly dead fish can decompose? I'm scared this could be what has happened. I really can't think of anything else! The other fish that kept getting sucked towards the filter doesn't seem to be moving at all now, and there is another fish that is upside down on the gravel, not moving at all. I don't think there's much hope for them unfortunately :(

Sorry to hear your having more problems. Its not a good sign that the fish is upside down and they probably wont make it. As for fish decomposing, i really couldnt say as i have never had t happen, i have always found any lost ones. I have heard some other fish will eat dead ones but i have never seen that happen as i have got any fatalities out asap. Its always a worry with fish keeping as you dont know what to do for the best. Hve you tested your water? I know you said you had cycled but what are your readings for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate? White spot can be lethal if left untreated, but can be sorted out if medication is administered straight away. Fish get stressed very easily and will get bacterial infections. Sorry i cant be of any more help. Just check your water to see if everything sis ok. GRA
