Hi all,
Just noticed some of my old tetra have developed white spot, thank you very much maidenhead aquatics.
I recently added 8 albino BN Pleco fry and a bamboo shrimp to my grow-out tank.
I was told previously that armored plecos cant catch white spot as they don't have soft skin for the parasites to attach to!
Is this correct?
If so all i can guess is that the plecos or the shrimp were carriers!
I have an old bottle of interpet anti white spot, it says that it is not suitable for Mormyrids (elephant nose fish) but doesn't mention it isn't suitable for crustaceans (like my bamboo shrimp)
Supposedly most treatments contain copper which is a big no no for my shrimp!
Anyone know if the interpet stuff will be safe to use?
Or possibly suggest a safe treatment i can use? preferably one that wont effect my bio filter too dramatically.

Thanks for your time.

Most meds if used at directed will almost certainly kill shrimp/snails. You can try a half dose which is what i use for my tank but still a risk

So, bad news!
I ended up deciding i had to treat them! and moving the bamboo shrimp to another tanks wasn't an option.
(couldn't risk spreading it!)
So i treated the tank monday night with a 1/2 dose, raised the temp from 25 to 26 degrees.
And didn't feed that night and added an air stone. (I think some med's can reduce the oxygen content of the water but not 100% on that one.)
Tuesday all looked fine, fed them as normal. I was surprised to see white spot had reduced by about a third!
This morning, all looked good. a few fish looked like they had lost a little bit of colour, but were behaving as normal.
This afternoon Massacre! almost everything was dead apart from the shrimp! :( O.M.G that's irony for you!
What could have possibly happened? all i can think is that it was the med's!
Any ideas?
