Yes internal parasites can cause a bent spine
Once a fish has a bent spine there no cure for that fish, but you can save the rest of the tank by using an internal wormer.
Livebearers are prone to camallanous worms.
Worner plus says it treat quite a few internal parasites but dosn't say it treats camallanous worms.

This si from wilders reply to a previous post with same problem

Wilder if you read this can you please let shell know what to use to treat camallanous worms.

Thanks :)

Fish Tuberculosis (Mycobacterium)
have been reading about this and sounds like what this fish is displaying symtoms of. says some sucesful treatment with Oxytetracycline and Kanamycin has been shown, and also can be transmitted to humans when removing the fish, also its highly infectous and a killer,so unless someone says otherwise,i think thats my platy tank about to be obliterated as i couldnt start treatment till monday even if i wanted to as lfs is closed tommorow( not that he would have this stuff sitting on the shelf anyway!

my next mission... how to avoid it in future

BUT of course if im wrong, please dont hesitate to let me know, and what to do

What other symtoms are they showing besides bent spine.
Fish tb symtoms are being thin, bent spine, sores on the body of the fish, dropsy as in bloating, fins falling apart.

You need a vet to perscribe a med for camallanous worms.

having read that i dont think it tb,no signs of sores etc,
so many of these illness are similare with symptoms.

other symtoms include, swimming like mental in the flow from the filter return ( for absolutley hours on end)( if you can all that a symptom) think her eyes are a bit poppy? but that may look like that because she looks so thin?
another fish is looking quite normal, but appears to "die" on the bottom of the tank, then gets up swims erraticaly around the tank then goes to the gravel and "dies" again.,but has no physical signs of illness.

also if this is camallanous worms, can they wormed against it,like you would with a cat or dog, also would this have been caused by a new lot of plants that i put in the tank 4 days ago?..(asking as i put them in 3 tanks!!)

thanks Wilder much appreciated

They can dart around the tank when the fish is dyig.
Have you checked your water stats as darting can be bad water quality.

Seen it before they look like there dyig on the gravel then dart about, its a sign of a dying fish.

Yes you can worm fish but for camallanous worms you need a vet to perscribe the right med.

well shes still swimming about, looks the same tho, shes eating too,its as if she hasnt noticed whats happend to her

I have something similar going on at the moment. Basically a tank crash. My fish are also eating but looking like death.

another fish is looking quite normal, but appears to "die" on the bottom of the tank, then gets up swims erraticaly around the tank then goes to the gravel and "dies" again.,but has no physical signs of illness.
- I had a guppy doing this. I had to put it down. They don't generally get better.

Praziquantel and pyrantel are both effective wormers. I've never used them for fish though.
