I recently bought 2 clown loach, iv noticed that the one has come out in white spot, iv treated the whole tank with white spot treatment from the pet shop, but i have now noticed that one of my mollies has come out in white spot as well. does that mean the treatment is not working?? i'v also found 6 babies in the tank 2day! iv read about the temperture rise so iv raised that to 26, and about adding salt to the tank, dont no what to do, in my tank i have guppies, mollies, platies, blue rainbow, neon and the clown loaches. any ideas whould be fab!! as im new to this.

Just keep up with the treatment. What medication are you using?

Clown loaches can be sensitive to some ich medications (especially those with high salt), so keep a close eye on them. It's unfortunate, b/c they tend to frequently come with ich.

its interpet on the box white spot treatment, its green, will this treatment harm the babys i have? and iv got another preg platy i think. how long can it it take b4 the ich has totally gone?

thanks

hi, the white spot treatment is working, but the parasite that causes white spot has to go through a cycle, once they are near the end of the cycle, the white spots drop off and they burst which the parasites go off to find a new host ( in your case the molly) the treatment will kill the parasites when they are in their final stage ( when is is swimming looking for a new host). i had a clown loach which eventually died :( . i was told to increase the temperature as it speeds up the cycle of the parasite and increase the air flow inside the aquarium as the clown loaches will find it difficult to breathe if the white spot has gone into the gills.
i hope this helps :good:

When the ich spots are completely gone from the fish, you need to keep on treating for at least another several days. Like Silky said, the treatment is really only effective on the free swimming stage of the parasite. It will not remove the parasites from the fish, they do that themselves to be able to reproduce and find a new host.
