just spotted my male guppy has white spots all over his fins ... between that and the platy that's lost some scales on her back I can only presume I've got a tank full of sick, or soon to be sick, fish :( :grr:

I've taken my apple snail and my trumpet snail out and put them in the fry tank. Taken out the carbon and put a dose of Protozin in ...

Still P'd off though.

Did you continue treatment for 3-4 days after the spots were gone? Thats a good way to prevent a second outbreak

I've not had it for a while but this will be the 3rd or 4th time in just less than a year. I always follow the instructions on the protozin bottle. It got rid of it the last time ... I just posted for a winge. Just when everything was going so well it turns on it's head and they get sick ... and it's always been that guppy that gets the spots first!

just thinking ... my temp is at 25 is it worth turning it up to 27ish? I've never turned it up in the past but I've read a lot just lately about turning up the heat

It'll speed up the parasite and let the medicine kill it off faster. ich can live int he fishes gills and you'd never know they were sick so if you turn the heat up and speed up the life cycle, you are less likely to miss any.

Sorry to hear it. Sick fish make me :shout: :shout: :shout: :shout: :shout: :shout:

About two weeks from having completed cycling and with my first fish in, I've just found whitespot too.

Been advised from numerous sources to up the temp to 30.

Just thought I'd mention that.

I've turned my heater up to 28. I'll check my thermometer in the morning and turn it up again if I have to. The Juwel heater has always been very accurate so far - it's just going to take a bit of time to reach 28 from 25

Will my cories be okay at 30? I know they don't like it too warm

i would say they will be fine at 30 while you do your treatment, but someone may come along and correct me.

I have to go convert that to Fahrenheit real quick...

I got up to 84-85 degress and my cories were sluggish, but lived through it.

So sorry to hear about the ICH, just been through it myself...and still am in a small way though, my husband bought 4 platies at the weekend He was floating them in the tank when I noticed a white spot on one of their tailes, put them straight in the 10g and treating with Heat and Salt, just glad I came home before he put them in the community tank! Hope that it gets sorted quickly for you with no losses.

thank you.... but these things go in three's and I've woken up to no filter flow and I've just had that in bits - at 9am it's too early in the morning to be taking the tank to bits!!

So ... come on fish/tank/filter/heater ... bring it on. Let's have number 3 out of the way
