Before I start, I was asked to post up some before & after pics of my previous old gravel & the new darker replacement...

BEFORE...

AFTER...

Now that thats out the way, during the change over I found a white slime on the rubber suckers for the heater. The side of the tank also has a very little bit on it. What on earth would this be?

Hi,

It's just a fungal growth which is quite common on things like suckers or bogwood. Its not harmful.

Just leave it be and it will disappear in its own time.

BTT :good:

hey dj, if you grow up just having tanks all over the basement in all sorts of states you get used to seeing every variation of slime known to man.. :hyper: , you just gotta get there!

Seriously, I just cleaned stuff of that exact same description off of our suction cups this weekend in the tank. I would think its just the standard biofilm (the film that the bacteria naturally create (its them, right bignose??)) that appears on every surface and then various other types of gravel dust and particles stick to it and give it different appearances. Dark backgrounds, like black plastic suction cups, cause you to see it differently than when you see or don't see it on lighter or more clear surfaces.

Biofilm is a normal part of a healthy tank and fish environment!
