Can anyone give me the name of a fine sand that is pure white and suitable for use in freshwater aquariums besides play or pool filter sand? Thanks for any information.

You asked for a name for white sand, he said name it Dave.

At least I'm assuming it's that. I've never heard of "Dave sand" before. :p

Oh. I hope a mod hasn't sunk so low as to make a tasteless joke in response to a serious query. I'd like SirMinion to clarify.

I wouldn't call it a "tasteless" joke. Maybe "frivolous" but it was in good humor I'm sure. I know there are some nice white sands (New Mexico IMO has the best white sand) but names of aquarium sand I don't know.

The same company that makes Tahitian Moon black sand also makes a white sand called Moonlight White aquarium sand.

It's wicked expensive though....

Just found the stuff--it's a dollar per pound! I probably can afford to buy at least enough for a 1" layer for my tank though. Thanks again.

I may have to buy some of that stuff. Moon sand is expensive but IMO worth it. Price of quality I suppose. :)

Yep, I was being flip. I'm sorry. I shall take myself off to hospital and have a senseofhumourectomy immediately.

Seriously though, as Squirrelbuddies said, the company that produces Black Moon sand also does other colours. The company is called CaribSea.

Beware though, some of the whitest sands are for marine setups only and will seriously mess with the water chemistry in a freshwater tank, however, CaribSea claim their white sand is safe for freshwater.

Maybe it's just me, but they seem to be playing down their site quite a bit. All I see is a small advertisement, phone number, fax and address. :p

You mean this site?
It's a pretty poor site for a commercial company, but it does have all the relevent information on it.

Yep, all I see is a picture of a reef, "Your Aragonite Source," some clowns and the information. I know the're a good company but their site designer sucks. :D I've made better layouts on Angelfire. Well back when it was just Angelfire, not Angelfire/Lycos.
