White poop again :(

Ahhh! Im such a sucker! I went to the lfs today because my parasites were all gone meaning there was no white poop. I looked so long and hard at the fish I wanted to buy - 2 black lyetails and 2 white lyetails. I did not see anything wrong with these fish - no white poop, no fungi, no dead or dying fish..... So I get home and im all happy with my purchases! Yeah new fish! Like who wouldnt be happy :D
Anyways acouple hours later my boyfriend says "look that fish has white poop".... I was like oh my gosh, not again.
I took the one black lyetail out of the tank that has the white poop and put him in a container (i dont have another tank) and was going to take him back tomorrow and ask for $$ back. Than about a hour later I notice one of the white lyetails had half white poop and half brown poop... Im assuming thats parasites too...
So than I get thinking. If I take the fishes back most likely the lfs is just going to flush them... I dont want the fish to die. Like yes I know its a fish. They didnt cost me alot but its not the $$ thats concerning me. I just dont want them to kill the fishes.. :X
So I put the black lyetail back in the tank (yes I know, im stupid, but i dont have any where else to put him) and have deciced top treat the whole tank YET AGAIN.... :/
Oh man, am i the only one with a heart? I just cant kill the fish. I have to at least try to save him and her. Who knows the other two fish I bought probably have it too....
The black lyetail does not look to good now. Hes just chilling at the bottom of the tank... At least im trying....
Are fish suposted to have any white poop? Like if some poop is white and the rest is brown. Is that normal? Are they sick if the poop is like that? Or are they ok?
Anyways thanks for listening :(

Sometimes fish have an occasional white turd, and go normal after that. I've had that happen before. If it continues, it's a problem. Maybe they find a scrap of food hidden somewhere, eat it, & get an upset stomach. Who knows.

You really should consider a small quar/hospital tank. After the cost of medicating a larger tank, you would be well on the way to paying for a small tank, heater, & filter.

Thank you for the advice. I cant get another tank at the moment, its just not feasible. But I do understand what your saying....
Just an update on the black lyetail that I had taken out and put back in - He seems perfectly fine. Hes swiming around with the other ones.
About the white poop, I just dont know yet. I did medicate last night so only time will tell.

I think I must have the worst luck with fish... Now in addition to the parasites Ive noticed a tiny white spot on one of my silver lyetails fin... Now we all know what that could be.... -_- The dreaded ick bug...
What am I doing wrong here people?
HELP :S

I noticed earlier in your thread that you had a nitrIte level of 2.0... is this still the case? If so, you really need to get this down. Good water quality will help in avoiding the spread and growth of disease. I'm not saying that this is definitely your problem but it certainly isn't helping.

I'm sorry that you are experiencing these problems all at once and I hope things improve for you soon. One thing I may have missed as this has become a long thread now, but how long have you had the tank running?

Hi,
These are my stats now:

nitrate - 30 ppm
nitrite - 0.3 ppm
total hardness - hard
total alkalinity - moderate to ideal
ph - neutral

My tank has been up and running since Feburary.
My sliver lyetails little white spot has disapeared... So thats a good sign than. I added salt and turned up the temp and added some meds. Im hopping the parasites will disapear soon too....

It's good to hear that you are at least getting control of the white spot.... hopefully the parasite issue will clear up soon too. Having Nitrite of 0.3 is certainly better than 2.0 but you will need to do daily water changes of at least 10% until it's zero. Having a nitrate reading of 30 is good and will help to reduce the nitrites.

The meds you are/have been using may also be causing a mini cycle which could be affecting the nitrite levels, but I'm sure if you follow the instructions and continue with the water changes things will keep improving for you.

Unfortunately this hobby has it's ups and downs and even the best and most experienced aquarium owners have their fair share of problems just as you are having. Personally I just lost a young Red Tail Shark (my favourite fish) because he decided to jump out of the tank through a 1x1 inch hole by the filter and I found him on the floor just too late.

This can be a tough hobby but is very rewarding most of the time.... keep working on it and I'm sure you'll get there.
