i get confused which they are, but everytime i buy white mollies, they always die with in a week, all the other fish seem fine, always the white ones, Is there any reasons for this, im guessing they are really weak fish or something....

Mollies (I believe) need slightly salty water......(Brackish)

i have all sorts of mollies, silver, black orange, balloon, etc. never had any type with a disposition to die. i assume there must be something wrong with your tank. fill out the following and we will try and help :)

White mollys tend to be one of the more brackish loving varieties of mollys in my experience, you will have a lot more success with them if you set up a slightly brackish tank for them (you can't add salt to you current tank as you have many salt intolerant fish in it).

Your stocking is not very desirable, you have fish which are not in the right numbers for their species, very nippy fish like tiger barbs with fish which are not advised to be kept with fish like angels and gourami's, and fish like the silver shark which will outgrow your tank etc. Personally i'd advise concentrating on sorting out your current stocking to make it better for your fish  .

[im working on rehousing the silver shark, maybe getting a bigger tank and getting this one put into the chimney. I dont know if u remember, you recommended me getting another filter, would it have to be the same capacity filter or could i get a smaller one? Also the gravel seems to be really dirty, the water in the bucket can get really black, would an extra filter help with this?

could the lobster be eating them? and you should have a nitiAte reading

i doubt it, the lobster is kinda tiny and always hiding, but they are pretty quick, probably the fastest fish i got

How long has your tank been set up? I agree that you should have a nitrate reading.

Oh, and I have my black mollies in my community tank, fresh water, not brackish. :good:

the tank has been set up for a month 2day, yaay! i will do another check on the nitrate when i wake up. Thanks again

checked the nitrate again, i didnt realise that i you are supposed to wait 5 minutes for the colour to appear. Well it came back as 5 mg/l, the lightest purple.

Oh yeah i remember now, yeah another filter will help with the cleaning the of the tank, a large one would probably be better than a smaller one. Gravel is pretty notorious for getting really dirty really easy either way though, if you get fed up with it, fine sand is a lot easier to keep clean and clean as a substrate  .

how would you clean sand then, wont the gravel vac suck it all up? Also im going to lfs 2moro, do you think i shud get the barbs numbers up? its currently 10, i remember u saying that 15 is ideal?

Personally i just wave a fish net above my sand to clean it, netting up all the waste from the top- i've been doing this for years now and my sand is spotless  .
If you are going to keep the tiger barbs, i'd rehome the guppys, angelfish and gourami's and get 5 more tiger barbs, followed by a couple more a week or so later if you like  .
