White Growth On Head

Thanks Sue for all your help. Though apparently this forum doesn't allow external links. The link gives only this: http://www./####.co.uk/Diseases1.htm

Zipper, the little ryukin, passed away this morning. Today I've bought a 10gal hospital tank and will start Fred on maroxy and maracyn-2 this evening. I think the big tank will be ok with the water changes. The remaining goldfishies (fantail, shubunkin, and black moor) all look healthy. I also dropped in some amquel plus today.

The tuft on his Fred's head doesn't seem to affect him at all, but it's driving me crazy. I hope he doesn't mind going to the hospital.

Be careful of the shubunkin as he/she groes older. The koi and commons can get too rough for the fancys. They will nudge them too hard and damage their swim bladders. I lost all of my fancys to my common, because I did not listen to this advice.

For some reason the disease table link won't work. I will work on it. I guess it has a message board, so it won't allow that link.

I've finished the course of maroxy and maracy2 in the hospital tank and Fred seems to have recovered. I haven't seen the white tuft in several days and the lump on his head is much smaller now. I think he'll be ok. I returned him to the main tank today and all seem to be happy.

Thanks for your help! I'm not sure what happened to Zipper (RIP) so quickly, but I at least know a lot more now about how to care for the fishies thanks to much reading and advice on the forums.

I am sorry about Zipper too.

I have a common of a foot, and I felt sorry for him all alone. So I just added a gold koi that is suppose to stay around 6 inches. He is cute as the dickens. He has catfish whiskers. As I think I mentioned, the Goldie tank is outside. It is 60 usg.

I would love to have another fancy goldie tank. But I will never again mix fancys and the larger more boisterous goldies. They don't mean to hurt the fancys. They are just nudging with that hard nose of theirs and doing what they do with their own kind. But the Fancys just are not fast enough or hardy enough to handle the rough play. I have lost about 5 fancys and maybe $200 of fish. One Lady Oranda was almost a foot long and very pretty. She suffered much from the common before he finally did her in.

I am delighted that Fred is looking like he is recovering. Sorry to say that most of what we learn is in the doing. We really can't do a proper job with posts. It is mostly best guesses, and mine will be different than anothers. I just had a crisis in a tank where the heater was accidently turned up rather than down. I chose one treatment, but it was the wrong one. Fortunately I was able to get it corrected with a best guess from a major pro and the tank is recovering with one loss. One I would not have lost had I not made the wrong guess and missed the temp change for so long.

So keep updating on Fred as this is of interest about Fred! and for treatments for future reference
