out of nowhere a white growth appeared on my girlfriends danios bottom lip...

its only about half a mm in size and has stayed that size, never getting any bigger or smaller. its round like a white spot (not the disease) it sticks out about half a mm from his lip

we've treated it with pimafix for a week but it has made no difference

it's not effecting its behaviour in any way, it's still eating normal, swimming about like a psycho and pestering the other danios and white clouds

My first thought is a fungus, but these are often accompanied by a secondary bacterial infection. I would have used a combination of PimaFix and MelaFix.

If you are in the UK get a med for white mouth. If USA the same. Check what your local carries. As I said if you go to the heavier medication, I would concider treating for fungus and bacterial. Try to confirm white mouth. The PimaFix (or the MelaFix) has pictures.

The treatment could have kept it in check. If so it will progress once the treatment is stopped. Be ready to go to the next treatment level. Also, Remove the fish to a hospital tank.

Is it papery or fluffy looking? It could be columnaris, this is what's otherwise known as "mouth fungus" or "cottonmouth". Pimafix and Myxazin are the best treatment for columnaris :)

Oops! Cotton mouth was what I was thinking of. Clearly the PimaFix and MelaFix are not doing it. If it is columnaris it can be very nasty! Hit it hard with an antibacterial/antifungal other than PimaFix and MelaFix. In my experience, again, the fungus and bacterial will often both take advantage of the weakened immune system of the fish and there will be secondary infections--especially since it has been hanging on so long.

It is also contagious. Be sure to keep any impliments separate from any other tank. Use a hospital tank if at all possible. The use of the meds may weaken the other fish and make them susceptible. Keep the tank very clean.
