Not quite an emergency *yet* but I'd like to figure it out/stop it before it becomes one.
My betta was recently moved back into my planted community tank, so that his tank could be used as a QT for the moment for some fish I recently bought. He seemed healthy at the time but had had a couple bouts of severe constipation over the past 2-3 weeks, if that has anything to do with it.
Today I noticed a huge glob (think a booger or something. Excuse me for the comparison, but it looks just like a booger actually) coming out of one side of his gills. I guess you could say it is "fuzzy", but it is a lot more gelatinous or cloudlike than fuzzy. It jiggles in the current as he swims. Its long and has a sort of pointed, amorphous shape to it.
His behavior appears to be normal. Water stats are all OK (0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, >20 nitrate. Tankmates are green neon tetras and corydoras.
Picture of the blob:
Click Its kinda big so I put a link. If you need some better pictures I can try to get some.
What could it be?
