I bought a new half-moon tail betta a week ago at Petco. He's beautiful. His name is Moony.

Today I noticed he has some white fungus on his body and his mouth. It wasn't there yesterday. I have some Melafix, so I put some in the tank. What else would be good for treating the fungus? I don't have much Melafix left, so should I buy more of that or buy something else?

He's in a 2 gallon tank, with a heater, undergravel filter, some java fern, and a few fake plants. Same set-up I had when I had Chase. 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, I haven't tested for nitrates, but I've only had him in there a week.

It could be columnaris. If it is, you'll want to treat his tank w/ maracyn 1 & 2 or some other type of anti-bacterial that treats it.
Can you get pics of the fluff?

I'd also do a 50% water change and add a little bit of aquarium salt.

I got one pic. It's pretty blurry. Moony wouldn't hold still. But that's a good sign, he's still swimming around.

Do I use both Maracyns at the same time?

Well, I bought the Maracyn. It was $7.49  I didn't have enough money to buy both. I changed the water and put in the maracyn. But shortly after, Moony died. :( I took him back to Petco, since I only had him a week and they gave me my money back.

I'll get another half-moon betta once they have more. I've got to clean out the tank first.

Awww.. I'm so sorry to hear that he died :(
Sounds like it was probably columnaris. I've read that it can hit quickly and kill infected fish very quickly. It's a pain in the butt to get rid of as well.

RIP little Moony
