okay so i got tones and tones of xmas moss a few days ago, added it to my tank and it looks wonderful now i noticed today there is white fluff or what looks like white fluff appearing on what looks like the tips of this could this be melting? fungus? or somethine else i have no idea, i shall get a picture of it tomo just wanted to get a general opinion before i post a pic anyone else had this experience before?

tank is mature, injection co2, ferts and high light

i also have strong flow around the tank

again i shall try and post a picture tomorrow at some point

is it white fluff, it is it the moss going white?, iv noticed that some of my mosses go a pale yellow when there dieing off...

i couldn't tell it is so small, i would say it is melting but then i have never seen plants do this before usually melting they die back like go grown and manky then regrowth i have not trimmed it i just put it into the tank so maybe i should trim it a bit

to be honest probably to small for me to take a decent picture il use my macro lens tomo see if i can get a detailed pic of it i do hope it is just die back and them maybe after a few trims it will regrow? thnx for quick reply mike

i think it will be fine, its probably just melting, moss is hard to kill... so well done if you have :L

haha managed to wipe out my weeping moss :p altho that was just two tubs from AE this is like 50 tubs worth but from scotty on here so i hope it is just melting :p

try growing some emersed as back up?

I had something like this appear on my java moss when I first added it. I kept an eye on it and it just vanished on day:)
Like Mike said, moss is very hard to kill so I wouldnt worry too much

okay cool cheers for that guys seems like i am good at killing this too,

on the right of the tank, the moss is still getting the white tuff but also starting to go brown?

on the left just white stuff from what i can see

okay pics of the right

okay hope any of these are good this is the left hand side now

any idea's guys

i think i am coming to a conclusion that my tank depth is effecting my light more than i can imagine, i am seeing better results around mid way and around half way up my light must be good enough for red plants to go red, strange they stay green on the lower half and red on the top half maybe this is a problem with the moss? light to strong on the top light to week on the bottom? maybe?

anyone got any ideas on this stuff its still there in my tank :)

No idea. I had something like this, not that bad tho. I did abit of research and think I found a thread somewhere online stating it was tiny roots. Basically the moss rooting in when newly added. I didnt quite believe this as it dont look nothing like roots to me but couldnt find any other information on it, other than the obvious like bacteria or mold. I kept a close eye and it just went on its own.

roots ye would be the last thing i would think off haha but hey who knows in this majical planted world :p but thnx for the info i shall watch it, not sure i want to do a trim of not :S

okay i am pretty much sure the white stuff was melting, now i am seeing what i presume is new growth very very bright green like buds on a tree have popped up today but my main question thought i shall keep it in here rather than created a new thread is when and how to trim moss, should i wait till i get good growth or should i just trim now? i did not trim it before it went into the tank i just ripped it all apart and put it in? how do you keep moss on track and looking healthy?
