White Fin Rot (Betta)

whats the best to put in the water to help my poor betta..

his tip off his fin is white and i realy do not want to loose him..

just read up its white fin rot

it should heal naturally with good water quality which means regular waterchanges etc.

you could a fin rot treatment or an antifungal medication

about the growth u may be right he is approx 3-4 months old now,

also im doing daily water changes and also setting up my new external filter 2moz so water will be fine,

Is the white area fluffy or cotton wool looking?

looks like cotton wool to me

just had a better look now and it seems the exact same texture as his fin, no diffrence what so ever

You could try using melafix. It's really good for most external problems.

no probs ill pop up my local fish shop in the morning now, will it be ok to add to my tank as i have other fish in there all healthy

yeah melafix is compleatly natural. however carbon in your filter will remove it so take it out first if you have it

Melafix is best for healing damaged fins and should NOT be used in a full dosage for bettas. It will also not cure fungus if that's what this is.

If the area is cotton wool looking/fluffy then this would denote a fungal infection. This is often highly contagious so you should separate the betta into his own tank.

A large critter keeper with a sponge filter and heater, plus a coconut cave to hide in and some silk plants will work great as a hospital tank.


A good treatment ( if in the UK ) to use for fungus is Myaxzin. Again, a half dose is best for bettas to be on the safe side, as they can be sensitive to some meds.
