does anyone have both or either of these? i have one on both of my 29 gallons and the whisper 30 seems to suck doesnt blow many bubbles into the tank but it did cycle faster....i was thinking about getting a whisper 30-60 for one of them if not both or just completly going to another filter brand to try them out, the 29G with the advanced is my project now since it will be heavily planted...

I have a Whisper 10 and I like it. I also have an Emperor 400 w dual bio-wheels. Marineland makes bio-wheels under the Penguin and Emperor names and come in all sizes. The bio-wheels provide superior (IMO) biological filtration as the bacteria are on the bio-wheel which you never replace. You replace the filter cartridges. Withthe bio-wheel always in contact with the air (oxygen) it can support a substantially increased amount of bacteria as well. I never had problems with my Whisper though.

I have an older Whisper filter (before Tetra got involved with them) and put a new Whisper 30-60 in my mom's 55 gallon tank. I really like the older Whisper that I have (it's a Whisper 5-15 or 10-20). I don't much care for the 30-60. I don't have specific reasons, I just don't care much for it. Maybe it's not enough filtration for the 55, I don't know. It doesn't work really well, though.

My thoughts/experiences...

Tetra has owned Whisper since day one. Whisper is simply a product name.

Personally in the last 5 years I have seen a major decline in quality from tetra. Five years ago when I helped my father with a tank Tetra was still being sold in most LFS. Today you are hard pressed to find anyplace other than walmart and albertsons offering tetra. :/

Ah, okay. I did not know that. I thought I recently read something about Tetra buying out Whisper or something. At any rate, the newer filter on my mom's tank is a TetraTec or something like that.

Yeah, for some reason Tetra changed the hardware division to Tetratec. Probably hoping to help the reputation which has gone down hill drastically in the last few years.

I had one of those Whisper filters you named, but didn't like it much. Traded up for a Penguin 330 and it's a much better filter. If your interested, try Big Al's Online, they have great prices.
