I was given a feather fin syno last friday (about 3-3.5" TL) and I'm not exactly sure which tank I should have it in since I dont have an african tank.

Option one (where it is now)
Planted discus community (28C)
3 2-2.5" discus, apistogramma cacatuoides, neons and a croaking gourami
my concern here is heat

option two
planted american cichlid tank
2 blue acara (3-3.5") - breeding
1 Jack Dempsey 4.5"
convicts (f 1.5" m 2.5") - breeding
4"+ ghost knfe
2 angels
1 blue gourami
1 sailfin pleco 5"
size (or lack there of) against the cichlids is my only thought here, though no one bothers the pleco

my original plan was grow it a bit in the discus tank and then move it the cichlid tank, ph is 7 in both

any constructive thoughts?

Andrew

I would sugest the Discus tank as there aren't many bottom swimmers and my featherfin can be territorial with other catfish!! But really you should be able to keep him in either, also to my knowlage of them heat is not too crucial.

One last thing, beautiful fish :good:

:D Post some pics, I love these fish and it sounds a nice set up that you have!

Personally I wouldnt keep it in the discus tank too long as it will begin to snack on the Neons. I would personally put it in the larger tank with the more aggressive fish and put a nice piece of bogwood he can fit under and he shouldnt have a problem with the larger fish so long as none are over 6" at the moment. I have mine in with Convicts, Jewells and other such in a 90gal, he is about the same size as urs and is fine. Just hides in his bogwood all day and feeds at night.

i had one, but i rehomed him as he was distubing my corys. but in your discus tnak he will be fine, i had mine in with my discus at 30c and he did absouluty fine!, if you want you could grow him abit in the discus tank and then put him in with the cichlids. but id say he could get batterd by the convicts and acaras as there both breeding and the syno will eat them.

Mines at about 7-8 inches and hasnt bothered my neons at all. Discus tank should be fine I think

where I get my neon from there almost as cheap as feeders and the discus have already been munching on neons LOL

as for the syno eating the fry, couldnt give darn, the black knife already does enough of that and the silly fish laws in tasmania say that we cant sell/trade between each other or to fish shops :dunno: .

So I'll stick to my original plan then keep it the discus tank for while then transfer to my cichlid tank, thanks for the input all :)
