Hi and thanks for the help so far, i have purchased my tank and it has been cycling for a week, do i have to use live rock or can i just use ocean rock? i ask as i really want to keep fish only. And when would be the best time to introduce the rock into the tank.

Many thanks

ocean rock is noraley used as a "base rock" then you stack live rock on it! i would just buy a little bit of live rock , its more intresting then the fish haha :good:

thats what i did, used a bit of ocean rock from the north east coast (to giv it that extra personal touch) then built live rock on top, but what i did to make sure the ocean stuff was 100% safe with no hidden nastys i (this is gunna sound wierd) microwaved the rock (kills everything) then soaked the rock for a week and checked for ammonia until i was happy that i was'nt puttin anything nasty in my display tank. :good:

microwaving/boiling rock can be dangerous, there are stories of it exploding. Id just bleach dry and rinse the rock to get rid of nasties. But make sure the bleach is VERY well rinsed off, this method might take a few days though.
