Hi there, I would like to add some plants to my tank. I am planning to breed mollies therefore plants would be a good option for the fry to hide in! The question is, Is there any type of plant which will be ideal for this purpose?!

Thank you, Kerri :good:

Java moss is meant to be useful for fry as there are tiny little organisms that the fry can eat living in it and its quite a good hiding place.

Thank you :good:

I will look out for that, can you get any colourful plants for freshwater tropical tanks?! :D

Colourful? Most easy to care for plants are green and a few redy/purple/pink plants. There are some more colourful ones but they have more demands which is expensive.

I think hygrophila difformis is a nice lime green shade to it and is very easy to grow. Various cryptocoryne species have purple colours, I think wenditii or undulata are some but not to sure as I don't keep them and these are also easy to look after and will provide low level coverage.

Thank you Simon

I will look out for those plants I just want my tank to be slightly more colourful but the lime green coloured plant sounds good!

Thanks again :good:

Also, java fern may be worth a look. Its very easy to care for, normally ferts arent needed and low lightin is okay. You can normally pick up a large bunch for cheap which looks great when attached to some wood. This would also give the fry something to hide in for cover.

This is how they look.

Cheers

mini lettuce is a good plant for the surface, the roots hang down, look pretty and are good as cover for fry :good:

Tiger Lotus are colorful red plants that grow tall, and my guppy fry like to hang near the surface so they like to hid in the leaves there. :)

Thank you for all your replies! All the plants sound great and I am planning to get some soon! :hyper: As I will be new to plants is there anything I should know on keeping them (food etc) Thanks again! :good:
