25-35 kilos play sand, I used something like 30 kilos.

isn't that too much for a 61cm x 41cm base? i thought that i only used 35kilos for my 4ft.

sorry, I was thinking this was a rio, buy a 25KG bag and use what you need to achieve 4cm at the front to 7cm at the back with a gradual slope.

wouldn't it be cheaper to use a say 15 kg bag? although my tank could do with topping up.

you won't have enough with a 15kg bag, with the clay you do really need it deep, if the clay is disturbed it will cloud the water.
