Hello all.

I'm coming close to settling on my stock for my 300l:

Brochis - of some sort - yet to choose species
Odessa barbs ( or drape fin barbs if I mortage the house )
some form of panchax
Cuckoo or yellow apisto's
lots and lots of oto's

The thing is, looking at the books, all of them call for introducing these species into "mature" aquariums, i.e that have been running six months.

As these are the only fish I want in the tank, I'm wondering what sort of order to add them. Which of the fish in the list above can go into a cycled but not yet mature tank in order to mature it for the others?

Many thanks

Steve

barbs are usually quite hardy and i imagine the odessa barb is no exception, so you can add those first. otos on the other hand really need a mature tank with loads of algae.

Agreed! I would add the barbs first. The panchax shouldn't be a problem either, as these are also quite hardy.

For otos you do not necessarily need a mature tank, but lots of plants with algae! So, start planting....
If you plant heavily, your tank is also much less likely to suffer mini-cycles, which will make it easier to add more demanding species quicker.

Do you have other older tanks already set up? If you do then you could just move some of the decor from the older tank into the new one as a booster to stabilise the tank until it matures. Mature tanks are all about biofilm build up and nothing can rush that but you can tranfer existing biofilm from tank to tank on hard surfaces.
