I got a batch of around 16 guppy fry yesterday. None of them have their egg sacs and they are all pretty big.

Should I feed them:
1.)Wardley's small fry liquid food that messes up the tank
2.)Newly hatched brine shrimp
or 3.)Crushed flakes?

my fry are doin fine on crushed flakes, and no mess, plus they nibble on the different live plants.

hiya

I use all those foods with my fry....just rotate them and do daily small (bout 10%) water changes to keep the water clean

Hikari makes a powdered food called "First Bites" (green package with a Momma Angel and her brood) usually hanging above the other fish food. I use it and believe me my fry are thriving...oh man are they thriving...

I also give them frozen baby shrimp and crushed flaked food.

It's funny to see my little ones with great big tummies after they engorge themselves... :pepsi: ---not on Pepsi though.... :shifty:

I also give my fry some hard boiled egg yolk.
Thay love it.

Egg yolk is the substance that causes a mess in the tank when I use the liquid food--it's the main ingredient.

I've seen first bites, but when I asked the pet care manager at Petsmart which one was better, he told me that the liquid food was better. Then again, I had asked him that question about zebra danio fry.

I use this.

Goes down a treat...

(I also assume that it's just very finely crushed flakes but you never know!)

It took far too long on 56k, so I pressed "back" before it finished loading the site. It had a pic of the stuff on it, but I'm not one to use websites to get my stuff.

How do the fry take to the frozen baby brine shrimp, by the way?

I feed my 110 fry finely crushed flakes, brine shrimp pellet crumbs, tubifex dust(forms in container from the cubes) and freeze dried bloodworms. I find the more variety the better they will grow and have better immune systems(unless you over feed them ofcourse).

I use crushed flake finely crushed into powder form, then i feed them it by wetting a cocktail stick or straw and putting it into the powder only slightly then feeding them it....does that make sense!!!

Thta makes sense. I used to crush the flakes with a mortar and pestle and fed them the crushed flakes with a tootpick.

The tubifex dust is a great idea! And it turns out that I have some at home already.

today I bought freeze dried brine shrimp and dried daphnia. They daphnia is real fine and the fry love it, the adults eat some. The dry brine shrimp are great! Multi vitamin enriched too!!! sounds good right? I crushed some for fry and left them whole for the mammas and the poppas. This was gourmet saturday for the guppies here. I don't think a piece hit the bottom for my corries :X

That's why you should feed the corys after turning the lights off. :D

That's also good advice, I guess. I already spend quite some time thawing and serving frozen food, so crushing dried foods shouldn't be a problem.

How much did the dried daphnia cost you? The frozen stuff is more expensive than frozen brine shrimp or blood worms...
