Its a hard one because Cardinals look better but Rummynoses school more which make them look really nice. I vote for the cardinal tetra

Its said that rummys are very playful and always chasing eachother playing tag through the plants etc

Have either of you seen your cardinals do the same?

What behaviour do they show?

I have rummys and neons and I can't say I have a preference for either really as they're both great fish in their own ways.

Both shoal really well together but I find the rummys more characteristic in the way they shoal. I call my rummies 'my red arrows' because of the funny formations they swim in, they're very interesting to watch. The colouring of my rummys is a bright red and i can usually tell how happy and healthy they are depending on how red they are at any time.
On the other hand the neons are good shoalers but the colours are more striking especially if you have a large number of them.
I guess it depends on whether you want a fish that looks good or whether you're the kind of person who likes the fish who are more interesting.

I can't comment on the cardinals I'm afraid as I've never kept them, for some reason I've always preferred the neons.

Bet I haven't helped one bit huh?

Both are great but from a longer distance cardinals look much better and brighter, especially if its black gravel and lots of plants.

Both are great fish. Cardinals look great but I vote for rummynose- they are much more active and shoal better.

My cardinals often play in the flow and chace through the leaves. I have owned both specimens and as above, Rummy's shoal better, however IMO theres nothing like a sight of a shoal of carinals when they do. It makes a tank come alive.

The one thing with Rummy's as they are great water test kits. The colour will drain from the nose when the water isn't good.

They may do, but its unlikely.
Cardinals swim near the bottom of tanks whereas Rummynose middle/top.Rummynoses are constantly shoaling and zippying around, Cardinals are lazy

cardinals look great , very pretty , look good in a big shoal , the shoal of 50 i had was pretty impressive. , rummynose , again imo very pretty , but even more impressive in a decent size shoal as they are more tight shoaling than cardinals and seem to move as 1 big body . its a very tough choice. in the colour stakes cardinals edge it , but for shoaling behaviour rummynose win hands down , and they are also a very attractive fish. i think for me it would be rummynose

I vote for Rummy's. When they thrive in a tank, there red nose really shows through like blood. Mine are a great little set of fish
