Which Fish For My First Tank?

as for first fish , when your cycle is complete have you considered white cloud mountain minnows , these are greatyl underrated fish , they are lively and colourful especially when kept in groups of 8 or more
they come in long fin , sparkle eye and golden varieties aswell as the standard

good choice of hardy fish for a newly cycled tank ;)

Woohoo theres Nitrites present in my tank. Hehe I can relax a bit now. Thanks for your replies chaps, I will hold the test tube on the card from now on.

I'll have a look at these minnows thanks. Always open to suggestions because I only really have my heart set on the Dwarf Gourami and the Siamese Flying fox.

My cycle seems to be going well and Ive been visiting the shops every weekend looking at potential fish for my community.

So here is my updated wish list.....

3 x Dwarf Neon Gourami (1M 2F)
4 x YoYo or Chain or Khuli Loach
1 x Pleco (Not sure which yet, will have look in all the shops and buy one that takes my fancy when the time is right)
1 x Siamese Flying Fox
10 x Neon Tetra or 8 x Guppy or 6-8 Rainbow fish or 6 Barbs (not tiger barbs)

Hows that list look for a 120l tank?

Ill start thinking about plants before I get any fish. At the minute I'm thinking about having some broad leaved plants in one end of the tank hopefully for the SFF and a few long thin leaved plants in the middle and other end of the tank.

I'd advise against neon tetras, as this is your first tank and they are sensitive fish. How do you like the look of glowlight tetras? They have a vivid red stripe down their sides and they are very hardy.

This is a glowlight tetra:

image isn't mine, I stole it from google images.

I find given good conditions, the red stripe is even more vivid than this.

My Siamese flying fox is rather grumpy sometimes it's great other days all it does is chase the other species in tank around! So be careful....it is a wonderful fish thou good luck with the tank

I saw these yesterday on another visit to my lfs's and thought they were great looking. If they are more hardy than the Neons I may just go for these instead. :good:
