I'm planning on doing my own 3D background and I will be soaking it for about a week in a tote full of water to ensure that it doesn't mess up my aquarium. But just in case, I've heard t's good to put a lot of salt in the tank to ensure nothing that leaches out will be to harmful.

Out of my stock, I know the Cory's don't like salt.
I've also heard guppies aren't a fan of it either? Not sure if that's true.
I was wondering, I also have 4 Mollies and 4 Platy's. Mollies are brackish fish so I assume they would be okay with salt in the tank but how would my Platy's do?

I guess it wouldn't be necessary to put salt in the tank after I put the background in, But I figure that just in case it wouldn't hurt to do.

Loaches can't tolerate salt. Having no scales, it burns their skin. Kinda like sprinkling salt on a slug

Guppies are fine with a little salt, actually I've seen them in full strength saltwater. Your cories would be my only concern. Oh, Platies are fine with a bit of salt too. I don't know what the salt would do for toxins except ammonia, or is it nitrite...
What are you making the background out of?

Styrofoam core and concrete outer layering. I'm adding an iron oxide based red coloring (Which I've heard is okay)

I don't agree with adding salt at all. So long as you've done your research and know your materials are non-toxic in aquariums, I wouldn't upset the natural chemistry of the tank as a precaution. If anything, add a double dose of something like Seachem Prime when you fill (dechlor, ammonia/nitrite detoxifier, slime coat, etc.).

Ay type of scaleless fish such as catfish, loaches, don't like added salt aswell as tetras not likening salt. Most soft water fish don't appreciate high levels. Of concentrated salt

So just soaking the background in a tote for a week or so would probably be fine then you suppose?

I would soak the backround as cories are intolerant of salt. Your other fish do fine in hard water setups and do fine with a bit of salt
